Really enjoyed the book and found it extremely helpful to use with my own kids who will be starting school soon.
To condense Rhonda's book into one sentence "Education should be and can be an adventure to savor rather than a chore to endure."
I have met Joy and been to her amazing school and even with just this I knew she was a "gift from God"! But after reading her book (and I cried all through Chapter 3 and thought that I'd make it through the rest of the book without more tears, but I was wrong!), I want to stand up and take action to make our learning process exciting. I am sure once you have read this book you will want to pass it on and I hope there will be many of you who want to "take action" to see our educational system renewed! I no longer have children in the school system (except a great niece and in about 5 yrs a great grand-daughter), but having read Joy's book makes me wish I could go back to school if learning could be presented with her methods!! She gives excellent examples of what is not working and ways to make it work. She has had a multitude of teaching experiences with all ages of pupils and I just wish I could have been one of her pupils and especially my children! If our nation ever needed a "wake up call" regarding education, it is NOW. If you think your children in public schools are being taught anything, you must read this book! If it bothers you to see any child abandoned because they "don't fit the mold", read this book! If you have ever experienced the humiliation of not understanding anything, read this book! If you think you know how to teach anything to a child of any age, read this book! Be prepared to have your eyes and your heart opened to situations that will dismay you, but hang in because Joy gives you the information and the tools to bring hope and joy back into learning! And if you are ever near her school, stop in to visit - you might just want to stay and learn something - something that you will never forget! Thank you, Joy for this amazing book and for continuing to find ways to share your gifts with the world!
